Specialist Disability Accommodation
SDA at Attainable Care
Specialist Disability Accommodation (SDA) refers to specialized housing designed for people with disabilities who require a higher level of support due to their extreme functional impairment or very high support needs. SDA is a component of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in Australia, aimed at providing suitable, accessible, and comfortable housing solutions for eligible participants.
SDA homes are built or modified to meet the specific needs of residents with disabilities, ensuring their safety and comfort while promoting independence. These accommodations can include features such as wider doorways, custom bathroom facilities, ceiling hoists, and assistive technologies.

The primary goals of SDA are to
-
Provide accessible and adaptable housing options for people with disabilities, tailored to their individual needs and preferences.
-
Promote independence and social inclusion by enabling residents to live in communities with easy access to support services, employment, education, and recreational activities.
-
Improve the overall quality of life for residents by offering safe, comfortable, and sustainable living environments.
It’s important to note that SDA funding only covers the physical accommodation and does not include the support services required by residents, such as personal care or assistance with daily living activities. These services are typically funded separately through the NDIS under the category of Supported Independent Living (SIL).
